Advice on Backup a Synology NAS to another Synology NAS

Just come across the Black Friday deal to get 20TB WD Red Pro Drives.
I have friends also have Synology NAS and both of us have spare slot, so we plan to have a offsite backup with each other.

I really want to know how should I setup for this.
I am thinking whether I should create another storage volume just for the backup.
And should this volume set to RAID0 (i.e. no RAID), because it is just an offsite backup.

Is there a problem to create a separate volume using Hyperbackup?

Not an issue, but why a second volume, as opposed to expanding your existing volume to include the additional drive.

A separate storage pool and volume make perfect sense for a remote backup at your friend’s NAS. This way, you keep it separate from the storage pool each of you has for your files.

After you install the disk, you create a new storage pool for it only. As a RAID type, you could use SHR, RAID0, or JBOD. I prefer JBOD over RAID0 for non-redundant RAID type because, unlike RAID0, you can expand JBOD with another disk. Create a volume (Btrfs) on that pool and create a shared folder, for example NasBackup, on that volume. Please note that you select the correct volume when making that shared folder.

Next, you must make the remote NAS accessible from the local NAS. You could use DDNS with port forwarding. Hyper Backup Vault uses TCP port 6281.

For the part of setting up Hyper Backup to another Synology NAS with Hyper Backup Vault, there are many resources on the web, among which How To Back Up Synology NAS To Another NAS.

A shared folder can do that without the need to involve 2 drives (redundancy is important). Seems unnecessarily costly and space inefficient.

Perfect sense?
