Bare Metal Hyper Buckup just stopped working

Hi all,

I have been using a bare metal Hyper Backup from a DS1522+ to a DS420+, both in my home, succesfully for more than a year now. Both systems are fully updated. Recently, without any change from my part, Hyper Backup stopped working as target is listed as Off-line, although it is indeed online and I can normally connect to it.

Anyone having similar issues? It’s a 26tb backup and I want to avoid doing it from scratch.

Let me guess: you open the task settings of the backup task in Hyper Backup, you enabled transfer encryption and the certificate is not trusted. This halts the backup. Trust or Pass (I am not sure of the exact words) and the target comes online again.

Hi Paul, thank you so much for your answer. Unfortunately I don’t have transfer encryption enabled as both systems are in my home:

When I try to Log In here I get this:

And again, I have made no changes whatsoever, be it in the settings or hardware of either NAS or network equipment (the internet provider’s default switch/router). The destination NAS is also online and functioning normally.

Any idea? Thank you again.

hi ekossan,

assuming you use an IP address in target’s first field, could you check this address is still valid in the target system?

is Hyper Backup Vault still running at the target system?

if the firewall is enabled, consider disabling it for testing

are name/password still valid at the target?

I just changed the target server name to the local IP address and it worked, it sees it as online now and it’s backing up. Why would it stop working out of blue though? The server name is still the same.

Thank you again for your help Paul.

Was the server name the name a DDNS name, like mynas.synology.me?

No, it was just the ‘mynas’ part.

In that case, it is weird it did not work anymore. An update of Hyper Backup or Hyper Backup Vault might have affected this, just guessing.

Anyway, you get along now, fortunately.
