Before the issue started I got an error, can’t remember the exact error but I think is regarding partition of the original working drive, while trying to repair the volume after replacing the drive that’s causing the crashed volume.
I restarted the NAS because its started to not/slow respond. And since then the status keeps blinking green. And I can’t login to DSM.
Orignal Drive: 2x4TB WD red - On Raid 1 (mirror)
New Drive: 4TB ironWolf Pro
Troubleshooting steps that I tried.
-
Restarted the NAS
-
Interchanged the old drive and also the new drive
-
I checked both old and new drives on Windows via Disk Manager and it’s still accessible with the partitions. But not visible on my computer
-
Checked Synology Assistant - Status: Not Installed
Is there a way I can fix this without reinstalling DSM. As much as possible I want to recover the files on the drive because I haven’t backed up some of the new files I added before the issue with the crashed drive.
I also saw this
"You may also insert a healthy spare drive into the first slot, install DSM, and then shut down the NAS. Re-insert the original drives back in their original order starting from the second slot, and turn on the NAS again. The healthy spare drive does not need to be removed from the first slot. Refer to this tutorial to check the health of your original drives. If there are issues with the original drives, please back up the data on your original drives immediately via File Station. is this a good thing to try
Worse case that I really need to reinstall DSM, is it easy to setup/work on Ubuntu to access the files.
