Bye Synology... Hello Veeam (free)

With the nonsense Synology is pushing in 2025, that is requiring their own branded hard drives for new models, it would be great if you could make a video about alternatives.

Although there are many alternatives, it would be best to focus on ones that address Synology’s perceived niche. I say perceived because it seems people stay with Synology because of only a few software features, even though DIY hardware is better.

For example, Active Backup for Business maybe could be replaced with Veeam free community edition.

Veeam has multiple products.

  • Free Backup for VMs, Windows, Linux, Laptops, NAS, and More

  • Backup for AWS, Azure, Microsoft 365, and Google

  • Veeam Hardened Repository ISO is a Linux-based solution that secures backup data by making it immutable. This ensures that data cannot be modified, deleted, or encrypted by unauthorized parties, even in the event of a ransomware attack.
