Can't connect to ethernet NAS when connected to WiFi

I am connecting to a remote Synology NAS over the internet, and I am connected via WiFi.
I want to have a second Synology NAS connected to my computer by ethernet, which I want to use to mirror the remote NAS.

But for some reason, SynologyAssistant and Synology Drive Clientdo not recognise the NAS that is connected by ethernet when the WiFi is connected. If I turn off the WiFi, it finds it no problem.

When WiFi is on, I can still ping the IP address (using the addres that it finds when the WiFi is off), and I can still connect to the DSM through my browser by using that IP address, and connect to the NAS via the Netwrok tab in Finder. But I need the Drive Client to be able to set up the mirroring).

But I obviously need to be connected to the wifi so as to have access to the remote server…

Additional things that may or may not be relevant:

  • I’m on a work network where I do not have admit privileges, and so cannot connect the NAS to the local network any other way.
  • I am on a mac desktop which doesn’t have an ethernet port, so I’m connected via a dongle that converts ethernet to a type C USB port

Finding the NAS with Synology Assistant, for example, is done by broadcast. Perhaps the WiFi network prevents broadcasts.

Broadcasts are a way of shouting around. A ping to an IP address is directed traffic, which could explain why one is working and the other is not.

Is there a way to get around this?

No, not from the client’s perspective. It is how the WiFi network was designed.
