I have a ds416 play that I have 3 camera licenses for. I use surveillance station with these cameras. When motion is detected on a camera, the video is recorded to the NAS, and then backed up in the cloud on google drive. This works great, but I have cellular internet and sometimes the video being uploaded hogs my bandwith . My wife and game online with our kids and grandkids, and this has been an issue.
So, I have been shutting the NAS off when playing but i know there must be a better way, I just cant find it. In control panel, networking, I can select the Lan connection but cant just disable it temporarily. Any ideas? Thanks for reading this far and have a great day!
In my router settings, I can block internet access for certain time periods, by MAC address. For example, “6PM - 10 PM on Sunday”. If you have a regular schedule of online gaming, this could work for you.
I can set a schedule, but the would defeat the purpose of the real time camera data backup to google drive. As a camera detects motion, it records direct to NAS in a folder. The NAS then sees the change in that folder, and does a immediate backup of that data to Google drive. The max size of the folder is set in Surveillance Station, and when that maximin is reached, the incoming new video overwrites (deletes) the oldest. Google drive is aware of the file being deleted, so they are removed there as well. It is a pretty slick way to get cloud camera storage without payning for a subscriptioon to oner.
Because my gaming schedule is random, as we play online with several of our kids who are spread about the globe.
That is why, just a simple red kill switch on the DiskStation Home page would be ideal.
