I have a remote video editor that is trying to download files from the NAS. A total of 60gb’s of files to download on their end. They said the download failed after about two hours. It was during the afternoon and the computer had not gone to sleep. What are some common causes for this? And is there anything I can do on my end to improve speeds and performance for downloads to remote editors?
Please share with us how the remote connection was established. Was it through QuickConnect, DDNS for port forwarding, VPN or else?
For this one in particular it was via a File Station shared link to the folders containing the files.
I’m in the process of getting him setup with a connection to the server via OpenVPN, but that’s not what was used for this. I understand this will be a more reliable way in the future, but I don’t know that I’ll want to setup everyone with access through OpenVPN so I’d like to troubleshoot why sending files and downloading them via File Station links fails from time to time.
If the shared link from File Station started with ‘gofile.me’, you are using QuickConnect. QC is unreliable and slow for large transfers.
OpenVPN is more secure, stable and faster.
Ok that’s super helpful! Thank you!
