I’m trying to set up my Synology NAS (DS1522+) so I can send a direct download link to my clients — something like Dropbox — where they can click and the file downloads fast, without needing to log in.
I have already enabled DDNS and forwarded all the needed ports from my router (5000, 5001, 80, 443 etc.), and everything is working remotely. But I’m still not sure about the best way to share a file publicly for quick access.
Here’s what I need help with:
What are the exact settings I need in DSM to share files via direct link?
Is there any Synology package (like File Station, Synology Drive, etc.) that I should install or configure for this?
Can I create a clean download link (no login required, like Dropbox)?
Is there any video tutorial you recommend for this?
Synology Drive has a public link feature, where you can share files openly to anyone (or protect them with a pw). Recipients can’t edit Synology Office files, but view/download all files. I have set up access to Synology Drive through my own domain, and can share files through this domain as well. The URL be something like drive.mydomain.com/d/f/a-bunch-of-gibberish
On a side note, are you sure you want to forward ports directly to your Synology? I’d suggest using at least a Cloudflare tunnel. Preferably a VPN, if you/your users can manage the “hassle”.
SpaceRex has some videos on different ways to remote access your NAS, I recommend taking a look to see if you can reach your desired outcome without forwarding ports directly.
