From DS918+ to DS925+ Struggling with Synology Photos slow performance

I just got a new DS925+ after the news that my old 918+ last DSM will be the 7.3. I migrated the 4 Seagate 4Tb HDD. No problem with the migration and the HDD compatibility.
I have around 150k photos / 2240 folders in the NAS, my old 918+ performance was very good including on the mobile app.
But now I’m the DS925+ is struggling just to show me a photo (30 seconds), browsing the albums, etc.

Old Setup 918+
8GB RAM
4 Seagate 4Tb each IronWolf HDD
2 NVMe SSD Samsung EVO 256GB Read/Write Cache
Network: 2 x 1GHz link aggregated (Balance XOR) with a manage switch with port aggregation
MAC Mini: 1 GHz network connection.

New Setup 925+
4GB RAM
4 Seagate 4Tb each IronWolf HDD. Migrated from the 918+
No Cache. A Synology MVMe SNV5420-400G 400GB on the mail to setup a read cache
Network: 2 x 2.5GHz link aggregated (Adaptive Load Balancing). Dumb 2.5GHz no managed.
Mac Mini: 2.5 GHZ network connection.

Any recommendation is welcome

Maybe your new DS925+ is indexing your photo collection again.

Hi Paul.

Thanks for your comment. For 2 days worked on indexing, the CPU was at around 70% all used by the photo app.

Yesterday I got the MVMe and setup the cache. Now looks like the problem is solve, I’m getting the photos in 1 second or less. I’m impressed on how the MVMe cache improved the performance, from 30 seconds to 1. Also the mobile app is working fine. Today I’ll increase the Memory from 4GB to 12GB just to be on the secure side.

I’ll continue monitoring.
