Hidden files question

In Windows 10, Synology Drive Client log shows that it didn’t back up over 4600 hidden files and I then read that Synology won’t do hidden or system files. So, I changed my Windows user permissions to Full Control for the entire drive then ran attrib -h -s to reset them. That appears to have worked.

So, my question is will DSM 7.2 go back and automatically pick up those files which are no longer hidden or do I need to remove the Backup Task and create a new one? When I look at the log I don’t see any of what was hidden as being marked Upload but they are definitely not hidden in Windows anymore. I have the DS1522+ unit.

This is an example of a file that is no longer hidden but File Station is not showing it backed up: AlbumArt_{7A8CC3B8-AEA3-4B9D-A4F3-41D1EBDADD46}_Large.jpg

Maybe I’m just not giving it enough time. The array is 13.6 TB full so I’ll give it a few days to see if they start appearing.

If this is the wrong forum category, I apologize.
Thanks!

EDIT: I’m beginning to suspect the Synology software. When I look at other files which Drive Client has marked as ‘Upload - Unsynced due to invalid filename…’ many of those files do appear in File Station and I’m able to play audio files from within File Station.

That’s a good way to break your Windows installation, unless you set the hidden attribute to begin with.

Synology Drive backup is intended for user files, such as you may have created in your Documents, Pictures, Downloads … folders.

If you need to backup a Windows PC, ABB is Synology’s tool for that, not Drive.

I didn’t change any attributes on the C drive. I’m just backing up media files from the D drive and that’s all that’s on that drive. No programs installed on D. I’m backing up the media files to the NAS so I can move Plex over to the NAS. I have no idea how the hidden attribute got set and probably wouldn’t have noticed if the NAS didn’t complain. I keep show hidden files enabled on Windows. Actually, it’s not the hidden attribute that’s causing it. When I ran attrib -h on the files, nothing was changed. Only when I added -s did it remove the hidden attributes. Windows would have no reason to make a small jpg a system file so it must have been set before I downloaded them from the net. Most of the image files I grab from discogs when I don’t have one.

Drive Client is telling me it couldn’t backup some files that it obviously did. When I check File Station, they exist. Other files it doesn’t backup. Some don’t get backed up because they exceed the Synology 247 char limit but that’s not the case for most of them.

To answer one of my questions, changing the attributes is not the only thing Synology was complaining about. It turns out that once it’s decided to Unsync a file, I must rename it and half of the time that doesn’t work. When that happens, I have to move it out of the source dir and back in before Synology picks it up. Plus, I discovered that if you have two identical files but with different names it will not sync either one.
