i have 2 NAS one 1621+ and one 918+. both are connected to a LAN. but if i connect them with an cable rj45 cat 6 can i get faster connection for data transfer between them? if yes can someone help me with some instruction? thank you!
Short answer: no, it is not faster.
I did some testing with two NAS connected with a 10Gbit connection and the direct connection was actually a bit slower compared to the connection via a 10Gbit switch.
The thought that a direct connection is faster is one of the myths going around regarding NAS.
However, there are scenarios where a direct connection makes sense, for example during backup or synchronization, to separate that traffic from user’s traffic to the NAS.

A switch carries every connection without effecting the others. It is effectively like a direct connection.
