Hi there!
I’ve recently updated the LetsEncrypt cert on my Synology NAS, and when I looked on both my Drive and Photos apps on my iphone, the old expired cert was showing. I removed them, but don’t cannot find any way to reset the apps to get the new cert. I’ve deleted the Drive app a few times, I’ve checked my iOS settings, I removed other Trusted Connection certs showing. None of it did anything.
Can you be a little more explicit on what you are seeing? Updating Lets Encrypt certs should not affect these apps. Are you using something like Open VPN for your connections? Can you post some pictures of what you are seeing without showing any of your personal data?
Hi Tom,
Thanks for chiming in and asking for more details! Absolutely I can be more specific. I have an iPhone (latest iOS and latest version of my apps). Both Synology Photos and Synology Drive apps used to have the certs from my Dad1522+ showing under settings in Trusted Connection. I updated my cert from LetsEncrypt as it expired. The apps asked me to log in, but showed the expired cert and not the new one.
So I deleted the old, thinking it would refresh. It didn’t. So I installed the Drive app, restarted the phone, and reinstalled the app. It allowed me to login, but didn’t refresh the cert in either app. So being … ummm… smart? … I thought I’d delete any certs and try again. I only did this in the Drive app, but when I check Photos, neither have any Trusted Connection certs listed.
The apps on both my PC and Mac have refreshed. But my iPhone shows nothing for either app. (I see the same in Trusted Connections in both apps - meaning both are blank)
So I’m wondering how to get the valid cert in my apps on my iOS device; and if it even matters
You mentioned that your Let’s Encrypt certificate expired? Is it possible when you updated the Cert, you gave it a different name? Check a couple of settings on your Synology.
For demonstration purposes, let’s say the certificate you just renewed, is called “example.synology.me”
Control Panel > Security > Certificate (tab at the top)
Make sure your certificate (example.synology.me) is the default certificate. If not, select/highlight your (example.synology.me), then select Action> Edit
Now, make sure the Default Certificate is highlighted, select the Settings button
Make sure at minimum, Synology Drive is set to use your certificate (example.synology.me) if not select the dropdown arrow and set your options to your certificate (example.synology.me)
Now, on your iPhone, you may have to delete your profile, and when you create a new profile, make sure you are using your default certificate (example.synology.me:5001) with your correct synology port number (I used 5001 for this demonstration).
Deleting the profiles from both the Photos and Drive apps seemed to work. The Cert was configured as the default, and was set for all of the apps under the “Settings” > “Configure” area in the Certificate manager within Control Panel > Security > Certificate on the NAS.
I really appreciate the help!
I did have to use the local IP instead of the hostname of the device to get it to work, but the appropriate cert is now showing as a Trusted Connection in both apps, and both seem to be working appropriately. (well mostly, for some reason Photos no longer does “People” facial recognition, but I’ll start a new thread for that one )
I’m glad you are back up and running. Happy to provide some insight. Good luck with facial recognition. If all else fails, send an email to Synology support, they are pretty good at getting back to you.
