I’m brand new to the NAS world and I’m struggling to get a working solution for this. I know I can use quickconnect, however some people frown upon this.
My home router/hub provided by my ISP doesn’t allow me to set up OpenVPN, and so I’m left with tailscale but I’m not sure how this would work for my needs. I basically want to allow my parents to connect to Synology Photos in the mobile app for android, and view the photos I’ve added.
Don’t make life more complicated than necessary. I suggest you use QuickConnect and limit its use to mobile apps only (Advanced settings). I know there is a negative sentiment about QuickConnect in user forums, but that is old stuff. QC is a monitored service that filters brute-force attempts since DSM 7.
Do your homework (separate admin, admins 2FA, NAS backup, keeping up to date—you know the drill) and stay safe.
Enjoy how Synology integrates its user-oriented apps with an easy-to-set-up external access service. Configure it properly.
