How to upload large files remotely

Hi, I am a newer Synology user and have the Synology NAS DS1821+. What is the best and most secure way for me to upload and view files remotely on my DS1821+? I don’t need to be able to upload large files everywhere, but I do want to be able to upload large files from my non-primary residence. Currently, I have set up Tailscale, but it is almost unusable when uploading large files, videos, and photos. I am unsure whether I should buy a solution that allows me to upload large files remotely to my NAS or use a different service on my NAS for remote uploads. I want it to be secure, so I am willing to purchase a device if necessary, assuming a device could be a solution. I was hoping someone might have advice on the best way to upload larger files to a NAS when not on your local network but on another secure Wi-Fi network.

Thanks

From your phone or iPad, you could use Synology Drive app or DS File. On a laptop, I would use Synology Drive Client. You could also use a VPN and connect to your Synology as a remote server.

We use Synology Drive to upload and Synology DS File to download tens to hundreds of GB easily from-and-to iOS and Windows endpoint devices, to-and-from a group of dispersed Synology NAS’s. These packages are included free from Synology. All of this is fully encrypted on the originating device before transmission and only decrypted by the receiving device after receipt.

This can be done using the Synology relay system, QuickConnect, any DDNS (Dynamic DNS) such as DYNDNS, FreeDNS, Synology’s DSCloud, or VPN. We use any or all of these as appropriate depending on the present environment and achievable throughput at the time and place being used, and have had excellent results over the past five+ years with novice, experienced, and expert users alike. (Translation: quick, easy and clean operations with few to no complaints needing no more than a few minutes training at most.)

We do not use the Synology Drive / Drive Client synchronization services nor Tailscale as they do not fit our peculiar needs, but YMMV.
