I'm pulling my hair out... Synology Drive Sync!

I’m trying to establish a sync between my two new Synology NAS.
It seems like it will start working and then just stop… Details below!

Setup Overview

  • Primary NAS: Located at my main office with fast internet connectivity.
  • Secondary NAS: Located across the city, connected over a home network.
  • Sync Type: Currently using Synology Drive ShareSync to sync files between the two NAS devices.
  • Sync Mode: Set to “Download data from the remote Synology Drive server only” to minimize write operations on the secondary NAS.

Problems I’m Facing

  1. Slow Sync Speeds:
The sync process is extremely slow, with only about 19GB transferred in 10 hours. I tried switching from a two-way sync to a one-way download (from the remote server only), which did improve speeds somewhat, but it’s still slower than expected. I’d like to know if there are ways to increase the transfer speed or optimize bandwidth usage specifically for Synology Drive ShareSync.
  2. Sync Stopping Unexpectedly:
I’m encountering frequent interruptions where the sync process stops unexpectedly. It doesn’t always resume on its own, and I have to manually check and restart the process. I’m not sure if this is due to network instability, bandwidth limits, or something else. Has anyone else experienced this, and are there any known fixes or best practices to keep the sync stable?
  3. Alternative Sync Options:
I’m considering switching from Drive ShareSync to Hyper Backup if it would help solve any of these issues. For those who have experience with both, is Hyper Backup more stable or faster for remote syncs like this? I’d appreciate any pros and cons you can share.

What I’ve Tried So Far

  • Changed the sync direction to one-way (download-only).
  • Verified that both NAS devices are running the latest DSM and Synology Drive versions.
  • Checked network stability (I was able to normal download all the files I needed in less than 2 hours!

Additional Info

  • Approximate File Size: 100GB+ of data to sync in one particular folder, with regular updates.

If anyone has successfully optimized their Synology Drive ShareSync setup, I’d be grateful for your advice. Also, if there are any advanced settings or tweaks within DSM or Drive that I might have missed, please let me know.
