To prepare for getting a Sinology NAS, I have installed Tailsacale on my MacBook Pro and iMac. They easily connect, but I’m getting Blackmagic transfer speeds of 1.2MB/s. Finder and application interaction with the serving computer is laggy and unusable.
- Note that this performance is the same connecting using the usual File Sharing smb connection on my Macs.
- I have 5GHz wifi
On his YouTube video, Will was getting speeds of around 300MB/s I believe. Help!
That tends to rule out Tailscale as the issue. It seems that you have a fundamental connection problem. I would start by swapping cables and switches, as necessary.
Thanks – I will start problem solving. I don’t have a lot of hope, however: All my computers have internet connectivity speeds of 50 megabits per second and the computer I’m using for Tailscale works perfectly fine as a Plex server. This may be a limitation of the way Mac throttles SMB?
Hopefully you mean 50 MBps per second. 50 Mbps would explain your slow speeds.
Yes, correct. Sorry for the confusion.
Did you ever figure this out?
Hi Brewster_Burns. It could be your Synologys firewall blocking for the Tailscale access. What I have learned from experience with a similar setup, is that the tailscale access Will be guidede through the Synology Relay service. Nok we are talking slow. So check your firewall setting for tailscale. You Will have to close - and reolen your accesss foto ser the result as an ongoing transition Will be thorups synology relay service as Long as it takes place.
Hope this helps …
