Looking for help from Lightroom users. I am trying to move all my photos, that are linked to Lightroom, from external hard drives to my DS1522+
I moved my photos to a separate Shared Folder. The Shared Folder is mapped to my computer with a Drive Letter. I pointed Lightroom to the mapped drive and everything seemed to work ok.
However, if I try to delete a photo inside of Lightroom, I get an error saying “The Files are on a volume that does not support Recycle Bin. Would you like to permanently delete them?” If I connect to the Shared Folder directly with SMB and delete a photo it does go into the Recycle Bin. Photos on external hard drives do go into the Recycle Bin if deleted inside of Lightroom.
Is this a limitation with Lightroom, or did I set something up wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
I have seen similar reports. Lightroom can not use the recycle bin of a network-attached storage. Does Lightroom have its recycle bin, in contrast to the bin of the NAS?
Only recycle bin is in NAS Shared Folder. I have found a few very old reports similar to this. But I know many people are using Lightroom the way that I am so I would think if it is a Lightroom problem there would be more complaints. So trying to figure out if it is something I am doing wrong. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Not here. If I bring up a shared folder in Windows Explorer and select “delete”. I’m warned that that deletion is permanent. The NAS recycle bin is not involved. AFAIK, that is always the case when using software external to the NAS.
I get this too. I just think you need to be sure as there is no recovering the file. It’s a permanent deletion.
I try to work on my shoots on an external drive using a Hyper Mvne enclosed drive. Then I transfer the results to my NAS. All this does is mean that I make fewer deletions from the NAS.
In checking further I find more strange behavior. As stated in my original post, when I delete a photo in Lightroom it tells me the Recycle Bin is not supported and if I proceed the photo will be permanently deleted. But in fact the photo does end up in the Recycle Bin. I also find that if I use Lightroom to create a Catalog backup, and tell Lightroom to save the backup on the NAS, it does save the backup, but a copy of the backup also ends up in the Recycle Bin. The normal backup created by Lightroom is compressed in a zip file, but the copy in the Recycle Bin is not compressed. I guess the answer is that Lightroom does not play nice with Synology Recycle Bins. I am kind of surprised there are not more complaints about this.
