Mapped Drive v Signing In - Which?

I’m running a Synology 1621+ with the latest DSM software. I want to edit video from a shared folder on my NAS. I’ve mapped that shared folder to my PC with a dedicated drive designation. Will accessing and editing the video files be faster or better if I log into the NAS as a User, or can I just point my editing software to the mapped drive and the source video file folder without logging in as a User? Thanks!
