I understand the volume size limit of 108TB. However, when reading the DS1821+ user manual, it states that the maximum total disk space is 128TB. This apparent limitation is not mentioned in any of the spec sheets, etc. With the new large size size HDDs available (e.g., 24TB), I’m wondering if can exceed the 128TB limit, or if there’s some true hardware or software limitation that means the NAS cannot deal with more 128TB total capacity, even if volume size is kept to 108TB or less. Thanks for any guidance Will or others might have on this topic.
You may have multiple 108 TB volumes. There is no limit on drive size presently.
Old thread I know, But I’ll leave a reply for anyone else looking in future for a similar question, You will be limited by how much RAM you have in your NAS, If you want to go over 108TB storage pool I’m pretty sure you need 32GB RAM.
CPU in the 1821+ can handle more than 108TB but not with the amount of memory they give you when you buy the NAS.
I am not so sure and could not find any information in the Synology knowledge base to support your remark. Please show me if I am wrong.
I have a DS1821+ with the default 4GB RAM and a 94TB volume. Memory utilization is 17%.
Please note that it is not the storage pool limit, but the volume limit of 108TB per volume at stake here. This was explained earlier in this thread.
