Your tutorial, updated for 2024, on installing Wordpress on Synology from scratch is outstanding and straightforward. But many of us installed Wordpress from the package center years ago and have a production website up and running.
When DSM 7.2 came out it significantly altered how Wordpress operates within DSM, such as moving the directory to live under the new web_packages directory, adding an Alias portal in the Web Portal section with no explaination of why or how it works, and changing file permissions. The package is now very out of date 6.1.1 vs new at 6.6.2 and won’t accept updates for some of the plugins, critically the security ones.
I would love to see a tutorial video on how to “migrate” a site from the Synology Wordpress package to Wordpress native install, on the same server, using the same URL. Basically make no change to the site or how to access the site but changing from the package install to the native install.
I tried following your instructions but can’t connect to the Wordpress 6.6.2 instance. I have followed the instructions found on Marius Hosting to “Manually Update A New Version Of WordPress In Your Synology” but it doesn’t work since it isn’t DSM 7.2 compatible. All other “migration” videos are to migrate from one host or URL to another.
Most importantly the process needs to be safe allowing the current production site to remain up until the replacement is built with minimal down time to “flip” it to the new instance, and a way to quickly flip back in the case of a problem.
This may be a big ask but feel it will be appreciated by many in our community. Thanks for considering it.
