New NAS setup - Not visible on Home PC Network

Great video on setting up the NAS - went through it step by step ,… worked great but for some reason once I set up a shared file on my NAS which I see on the Control Panel Shared folder screen I cannot see it on my home PC network folder. Any ideas ? Any help would be much appreciated

This is a very common one - Windows not showing network shares in File Explorer even though everything looks fine on the NAS side. Usually comes down to one of three things:

First check your Windows Network Profile. Open Settings > Network & Internet > click your connection - if it says “Public” switch it to “Private”. Windows disables network discovery on public networks by default.

Second, make sure Network Discovery is actually on. Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings, then under “Private” tick “Turn on network discovery” and “Turn on file and printer sharing”. Save changes.

Third, even if Windows can’t browse to it, you can map the drive directly by IP which bypasses all the discovery stuff. In File Explorer press Win+R, type \\YOUR_NAS_IP (e.g. \\192.168.1.100) and hit Enter. If the share appears there, right-click it and choose “Map network drive” to make it permanent.

If none of that works, check the NAS Control Panel under File Services and make sure SMB is enabled and set to SMB2 minimum (SMB1 is disabled in Windows 10/11 by default).

Carried out all 3 actions but sadly still cannot see it on my home PC network folder
