Options for Auto-Mounting NAS upon VPN Connection? Mac

First of all, THANK YOU SpaceRex for all of your tutorials on youtube. I’ve successfully configured our new Synology NAS with ease and gotten our VPN up and running, security and backups all dialed.

The one thing I’ve noticed is that on MacOS when connecting to the NAS via VPN there’s just too many steps to not be annoying. I connect to VPN > Finder>“Go”>“Connect to Server…” and SMB into Server, etc. every time.

Surely there’s a faster way to do this? Is there a way to say “IF/WHEN connected via VPN, automount network drive”? Seems so simple…

Just add the mounted volume to your auto-login items
in your system setting search log-in , select “open at login”, clcik the + button then select the mounted volume, you should also have your VPN in this list as well.

Yes that’s an option, but I don’t always want to be connected to VPN when Im at home.
The ONLY reason I have to connect to the Wireguard VPN is solely for the purpose of accessing my NAS which I don’t need to be connected to all the time.

I’d like to have it where i connect to VPN from home, it auto mounts the drives. One click.

Hi splizaat, I have previously had success with the app ‘AutoMounter’ available from the App Store.

It allows you to configure CIFS shares to be mounted at login, or upon successful connection to a VPN (or both!). In your case, I’d recommend trying it out for the 7-day trial and seeing if it meets your needs.
