I’ve got a DS923+ and DS918+, and just experienced a power outage that knocked out both their power. I’ve been wanting to install a UPS, and had one purchased, but noticed that it had a giant warning on it that said it should only be directly plugged into an outlet… no extension cord. So I returned it.
Unfortunately, I live in a very old house with very few outlets. I’d have to use an extension cord in order to use the UPS.
Anyone have any recommendations for a UPS that is ok to be powered via extension cord? Thank you!
In general, you’re NEVER supposed to connect a UPS to an outlet via an extension cord. What’s ironic is that the cords on a lot of UPS’s aren’t very long often making it a challenge to plug directly into a wall outlet. If you’re forced into using an extension cord make sure to keep it as short as possible, the cord is grounded and heavy enough for the electrical load (minimum 12 guage). You should be good to go then! Good luck!
Thank you! I noticed the short cord length, too — and its limitations. Wish they could come up with solutions for those of us with a lack of outlets, and outlets in mostly inaccessible places. Old houses are fun, haha!
