Recovery media - Network driver not detected

Good evening, guys. How do I solve this problem? I created a recovery drive on a USB stick. The system starts, but it cannot fin

d the network driver.

I provided it with the path to the driver, but it still doesn’t connect to the internet.

Honestly its super frustrating the way they don’t carry over drivers like Acronis and others do. The best temporary fix is the basic amazon USB to ethernet dongle which will bypass that screen but doesn’t resolve it if the USB driver doesn’t carry over either. I can use help on this as well if anyone knows how to solve this.

Once resolved, be sure to run a full RESTORE to ensure that the backup is good, and all parts are working as intended.

I feel your pain. Especially the bleeding edge of gaming mothrrboards have drivers that are not included in the synology driver section - nic and, quite often nvme raid drivers on amd ryzen and epyc motherboards.

You could

  1. Download the network/storage driver from the manufacturer by looking in the driver download section. Go with the manufacturer of the mainboard or the network card. The downloaded driver needs to fit the windowsPE of the recovery version, not the target OS. So with Windows10/11 64BIT you should be fine. if you download the generic driver pack from, lets say realtek or intel, you have a lot of slightly different driver files in the zip file.
  2. unzip the driver file and copy the whole directory with all drivers on the synology recovery media
  3. when booting the new computer with the recovery media you come to the screen where you are currently stuck. in the upper right corner expand the drop down menu and select load drivers.
  4. Browse the SynoMedia Drive for the folder with the drivers you just copied. it might take several attempts until you find the right driver version fitting to you OS and nic type.
  5. it takes some time for the correctly installed nic to obtain an ip addresd and establich that networking works. so just wait a minute before you try the next driver. and yes, a functional dhcp server in your network would be “helpful” too.

If you do this for a living you will soon finelf with a nice collection of nic and raid drivers.
