Slow 10 GB and non uniform disk utilization - please help

File transfer is slow on 10GB connection.

  • Blackmagic Disk Speed for 5 GB file results are for 203MB/s write and 161.7MB/s read
  • iperf3 shows that the 10Gbit run at 9.83Gbit/s both ways.

My NAS is a DS223+ in Raid 5 with 3 disks with the Synology 10GB card

  • Disk 1 - 12TB - Toshiba N300 HDWG21C
  • Disk 2 - 12TB - Toshiba N300 HDWG21C
  • Disk 3 - 12TB - Toshiba N300 HDWG51CUZSVA

Disk 1&2 where previously set in Raid 1 in my previous NAS (DS718+), they were “extended” to Raid 5 when installed in the DS223+.

MTU set to 9000 on both NAS and PC.

NAS is directly connected on 10GB with my PC (Zyxel XGN100C 10G RJ45 v2 network card). SMB mounted with the 10GB IP network address.

When transfering a 233 GB video file between the NAS ans the PC (WD** Black SN850X 1000GB) the CPU and memory are stable (resp 9% and 20%) whereas disk utilisation is non uniform among the disks (see grpah below).

I individually benchmarked my drive in DSM and they all perform very well.

I installed my 10GB connection yesterday and spent the WE doing my best to trouble shoot it in vain.

So should any of you have an idea on how to get a speedy file transfer, I would greatly appreciate your inputs.

Thanks in advance
