We have a DS720+ that currently has a single 8TB HDD. Of this 8TB, most of it is backups of other machines and a small fraction (around 300gb) is actual network files in use. This data is not mission critical, so we do not see the need in a RAID/SHR setup. I have lots of backups in use and I feel comfortable taking the non-raid risk.
I have a spare 525gb SSD from a PC that I no longer use. Was wondering what everyone thought about using that SSD as the system and file server volume and use the 8TB drive for just the backups? I’d run them in a Basic configuration, with one volume residing on each drive.
