SMB Shares Disappear Over Time with DSM 7.1.1

Has anybody lost access to their SMB shares with DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 6?

I waited for over a year since DSM7 came out to upgrade our RS814+ to DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 6.

The RS814+ has been in production, on a domain with no issue for years. As soon as I upgraded it to version DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 6, I have noticed 3 times so far where all the SMB shares are not accessible. When this happens, I have checked the RS814+ itself and it is up with no showing issues. I can ping the system, connect via web interface and SSH. Whan the SMB shares go away, I have tried to connect back to the shares via name or IP address and either work.

The only way I have gotten the SMB shares to work is to re-boot the system. When it is re-booted the SMB shares are accessible again.

The DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 6 was done in June of this year. The SMB share has gone away 3 times since the upgrade.

The RS814+ gets it’s time from the same NTP server as our domain controller. Time is correct on RS814+, domain controller and all Windows 10 clients that connect to the SMB share.

All networking resolves correctly.

Apparently the RS814+ will not get the 7.2 update according to Synology.

Do not like to re-boot the RS814+ because it is in production with 50+ end-users.

I am wondering if anybody else has experienced anything like to.

Thanks…

I recall reading similar reports but without a clear solution.

As an alternative to rebooting the system, have you considered restarting the SMB service via SSH when the issue occurs?

Paul,
I have also considered restarting the SMB service the next time this happens.
Would you know if this is the correct command to restart the SMB service?

“synopkg restart SMBService”

Thanks…

Not tested that command but from my SSH experience it seems most likely.
