Synology Photos HEIC

hi

i organized my whole library in synology photos using tags. i have an iphone so all my photos are HEIC files. i know that i cant write the information directly in an HEIC file. now i am worried, that i loose all this information when i change the app or the nas. is there any way, i can write the information directly in the file? or if i once change the system, how can i sace all this information?

thank you for your support!

if you don’t mind me asking a related question, how did you update to see the HEIC in synology as previews? They dropped the license for that but I recall someone said how to manually reinstall I think SpaceRex did. Forgot how to do it tho

i didnt realise any change (my system is DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 5). and yes there is a video from spacerex.

On the one hand thanks for your post, because I wasn’t aware of this limitation, but I can confirm it.

Second, if I were in your shoes, I’d consider creating folders based on the tags and organizing things that way, as they won’t be prone to any issues you’re worried about once they’re in the folders. Obviously pics with multiple tags will be difficult, but you can decide on which tag is more important, etc.

You could just create the folders, make sure you’re in folder view in the UI, filter on the tag (tags aren’t a default option so you’ll have to click the gear to enable it), then select and move all the pics from there.
