Tailscale and/or OpenVPN and HTTPS

Hi All,

This is my first post here, so need to let you know that I am quite new to dealing with tech stuff, so please be gentle, and if possible explain as you would to a child

I have a DS918 and use it mainly to store work documents, and various media files. I use Emby for the media playback. I struggled for a long time trying to get Emby to work away from home, which led me to Spacerex on YouTube, then on to port forwarding. I managed to set up a port on my router for Emby after watching the video on port forwarding.

I have also installed Synology Drive and Tailscale (on my Macbook, for travelling) now after watching the Complete Access Guide.

My question is; Is it worth adding OpenVPN also? And If I did, would this get rid of the warnings I keep getting when logging in to Emby of my site being insecure? Also, as my NAS periodically changes its IP address, is it OK to add my Tailscale IP address in the port forward I created in my router for Emby?

Below is a screenshot of my router port forward rule. If I can use the Tailscale IP address, how would it be input?

Thanks in advance, and apologies if this is a silly question.

No experience with Emby or Tailscale (little), my alarm bel went of when you mentioned that your NAS changes IP address periodically.
Do yourself a big favor and make the NAS’ IP address static (a.k.a. fixed address). You can do this either as a DHCP reservation within the DHCP range or your router, or as a static address outside that DHCP range.
This is step #1 before you set up port forwarding.

Edit:

I found a video and can see how to do this by setting the LAN connection to Manual and using the number next in line from the Router IP address, then changing the port to reflect the new NAS IP.

I have done this and all is working well.

Thanks for getting back and pointing me in the right direction!
