Transferring files from external hard drives to NAS

I’m new to owning a Synology NAS, I have the DS1821+ if that matters for my question. I’m curious about the best method for transferring files from external hard drives and SSDs to my NAS. I have some hard drives with just pictures and videos and some with PDF’s files.

I suggest you connect the USB storage device to a USB port on the NAS. Next, log into the NAS (DSM desktop) and open File Station. Assuming you already created a shared folder and subfolders, you can start copying.

What Paul suggest would work perfectly, but you can also try USB Copy (you can install it from “Package Center”). When I got my NAS some years back, I had to transfer several TBs of data, and with USB Copy it was just a “fire and forget” operation.
