Unifi UNAS Pro backed up to remote Synology

I’ve really appreciated your YouTube content which helped me utilize my Synology NAS far better than I had been over the past decade. As I’ve learned more, I have upgraded to a Unifi based network, created a 10Gb link to edit photos and video from my Synology, and upgraded my home video surveillance.

Now that Synology is limiting their new NAS features, I’ll be moving my primary NAS to a UNAS Pro. I would like to keep my old Synology NAS as an off-site backup. Could you create a video detailing this process with Tailscale and best practices to set up a reliable backup?

I would love to see more UNAS and Unifi content on your channel, especially if there’s a good alternative to Synology Drive, which is the feature I will miss the most, moving away from their products.

Thank you!

There would be a whole boatload of people wanting to watch a video about alternatives to Synology given their move completely to proprietary hardware (I hear RAM also won’t work on the new devices).

I want a bigger NAS but won’t be buying Synology. I am also looking at a UNAS. For now I’ll probably just mount the UNAS as an SMB share on my Synology and use the UNAS as my primary device from all my computers for data storage, but I am looking to move away from it entirely over the coming years. I have already got a mini-PC and have migrated my VMs and Docker containers.

I now want to replace:

Active backup for business
Active backup for Microsoft Office365
Hyperbackup
Cloud Sync (I do a one-way to backup my cloud files)
Synology Photos (currently trying Immich)
Surveillance Station (currently trying UniFi Protect)

Preferably with Docker containerised software so I am never limited by manufacturer in future.

The only thing I would like from UniFi is some kind of SHR replacement but the majority of the time I have had all the same size disks anyway.
