Hi new here, I have a 423+ and as i was new to NAS drives I added 2 x 14TB drives in raid 0 for my plex server. I only had the 2 drives at the time and 18TB of films so had to do this. I will be buying 2 new drives, hopeful 2 x 16TB drives, I need to know can i add these new drives and change the vol 1 to Raid 1 without losing my films or any data? Thank you Pete
There is no simple lossless way to migrate from RAID0. You must start fresh, and restore from your external backup. If you intend to use all drives, you cannot add the 14TB drives to an existing pool consisting of 16TB drives. Consider SHR before RAID1. Questions?
Thanks for the reply, can i back up Plex and folders to a external USB drive, I do have a 22TB seagate drive. Do i have to use a backup tool or can i just copy the folders including plex and then drop them back on the new raid, thanks Pete
Ideally you would use Hyper Backup to backup your files/directories/packages to a USB drive(s). You could create separate backup tasks to “fit” the available USB drives (Hyper Backup cannot span USB drives).
The downside is that 3rd-party packages, such as Plex, will have to be be manually configured again. Keep plenty of screenshots.
