I am looking to buy a new 5 bay NAS - and noticed this has not been updated to 24 months, then I looked and almost the whole range is now over 2 years old, some much much older.
It feels like buying now is the wrong time to buy. I assume they will have newer units with faster CPU and more ram in the works?
Synology stockpiles CPUs, and as a result, outdated CPUs generally continue a few seasons. Even the newest NAS models have dated CPUs and kernels. Don’t count on a lot.
OTOH, UGreen has some interesting promises, but there’s early adopter risk involved. Good luck!
There are probably some “x25” products in the pipeline that will replace existing models, but the most likely contenders are the" x21" products.
If you need a new NAS now, buy now. If you can wait, wait.
